BeatBox Asia Championship 2007

Last Sat, we went to watch the BeatBox competition. My company co-sponsored the event and i was given 2 tics.

According to the Wikipedia:
Beatboxing is a form of vocal percussion connected with hip hop culture (it has been called the "fifth element" of hip hop) although it is not limited to hip hop music. It is primarily concerned with the art of producing drum beats, rhythm, and musical sounds using one's mouth, lips, tongue, voice, and more. It may also involve singing, vocal imitation of turntablism, the simulation of horns, strings, and other musical instruments. Therefore it could be said to be a genre of a cappella music although it can be employed alongside other instruments. It may have some historical connections with other vocal traditions such as scat singing and puirt a beul.

I thought it was interesting and amazing! some can even sing and make rhythm at the same time..definitely not easy....

there were 4 rounds to the competition...first round is individual thereafter 2 were kicked out, left 8...

second round, the contestants were paired up and they are supposed to spar against each other..a pair of them was quite funny...1 of the guy "took out the heart" of the second guy (making the heartbeat sound) ..so when it comes the turn of the second guy, he "dig out" the balls of the first guy (imagine his actions of digging out and throwing away) one by one and making the sound of the ping pong ball bouncing away.. that was funny lor..haha

4 contestants were left for the 3rd round and final 2 for the last round..and it got a bit boring after the 3rd round..hehee..

Darren Tan, Mi Lu Bing and 5566 were there as performers! And without the fans of theirs, i think no one will be there to see the competition except for those few supporters of the contestants. Quite sad lah coz seems like the focus of the whole event is the singers not the contestants...the most noise was made when they made their appearance esp 5566! woohoo! and that was the part i enjoyed the most ...i also become their temporary fen(3) si(1)..hahah... and of coz enjoyed myself playing with my new camara! ;)
